Welcome from the Principal
Dear Stonington Middle School Students and Families,
On behalf of the entire SMS Stingray staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2025–2026 school year! I hope you’ve had a summer filled with rest, fun, and meaningful time spent with those you care about the most. As we prepare to open our doors, we are working diligently to get ready for a successful and engaging school year.
For those who do not know me yet, my name is Jeff Parkinson, and I am honored to serve as the principal of Stonington Middle School. Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning for another year, we are excited to greet you and begin a new chapter together.
I would like to extend sincere gratitude to our custodial and maintenance staff, who are working tirelessly throughout the summer to prepare 40 Field St to be the most welcoming and middle school it can be. We are also in the process of making improvements to our facility and technology infrastructure to better support teaching and learning.
In 2025-26 SMS will feature a new STEM Lab, repurposed spaces for special education and intervention, and four portable classrooms that will arrive in the fall. At that time we will also be bringing a Library/Media Center back to the 40 Field St. Building! Our teachers and support staff have been busy preparing classrooms and planning engaging lessons and learning experiences for our students, and our office staff is helping register new students, coordinate essential information, and organize materials to ensure a smooth start to the school year.

About our school
Stonington Middle School is a 6-8 middle school is an inclusive school with approximately 380 students. SMS has been relocated to 40 Field Street, Pawcatuck, CT for the 2024-2025 school year. Stonington Middle School’s mission is to provide quality instruction, that will challenge students’ abilities and provide them with the knowledge and skills to participate successfully in a democracy. Stonington Middle School Students are:
Citizens - This form of citizenship is based on the obligations of citizens towards the community, rather than rights given to the citizens of the community. The obligations of citizenship are deeply connected with everyday life. A citizen’s own destiny and the destiny of the community are strongly linked.
